Cleethorpes Armed Forces Day Designated as National Event

The Cleethorpes Armed Forces Day has been declared this year’s national event, marking an important elevation of local pride. The festivities, scheduled to begin on 27 June, anticipate an influx of thousands to the seaside town in Lincolnshire for a three-day duration. The event programme includes parades, exhibition of military vehicles and an exciting flypast by the prestigious Red Arrows RAF display team. Although the national event is set to conclude in 2023, communities such as Lincolnshire will persist in hosting local events.

Defence Secretary John Healey underscored the significance of re-establishing the bond between the country and its serving members. The Armed Forces Day, according to him, will only increase in both scale and impact. As per the Ministry of Defence (MoD), over 180 events will take place across the country, demonstrating acknowledgement and appreciation for the role of the military.

Philip Jackson, North East Lincolnshire Council’s leader, expressed his gratification for Cleethorpes being selected for this privilege. In recognition of last year’s unprecedented turnout, he lauded the effort of the Armed Forces Major Events Team, asserting the escalating status of the occasion. The weekend’s ambience will be a mix of celebration, appreciation, and contemplation, as locals and guests pay homage to the individuals who have devoted their lives in service to the country.
