Lincolnshire Landmarks Illuminate Pink to Promote Organ Donation

Key landmarks across Lincolnshire will be bathed in pink light as part of a national campaign to raise awareness around the importance of organ donation. Sites such as the clock tower at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby and the main entrance at Scunthorpe General Hospital will be lit up for this special cause. This initiative pays tribute to over 400 individuals who tragically lost their lives last year as they awaited organ transplants.

Dr Harish Lad, the clinical lead for organ donation at NHS Humber Health Partnership, stresses the crucial role of campaigns such as these. He asserts that they tackle the challenge of under-registration for organ donation, which can prevent potential life-saving transplant opportunities. From April of the preceding year until August of the current year, 20 families in the Humber area have given consent for organ donation.

Anthony Clarkson, the director of organ donation and transplantation at NHS Blood and Transplant, urges Lincolnshire residents to confirm their status as organ donors. He highlights the fact that such a simple action could potentially rescue up to nine lives.

In addition to the illuminations, Scunthorpe United will join in supporting the campaign. They plan to promote organ donation information via their digital scoreboard on match days.
