Local Volunteers Celebrate Success of Chop, Chat and Change Project

Title: Local Volunteers Laud Success of Chop, Chat and Change Project

The Chop, Chat and Change programme, a community-focused initiative in Lincolnshire aimed at curtailing food wastage, has earned commendation for becoming self-sufficient. Originally receiving financial backing from North Kesteven District Council, the project was introduced in October 2025 and is now managed by GoGro CIC.

The programme centres around volunteers congregating at Sleaford’s Riverside Centre weekly, where they assemble meal starter packs from donated fresh produce. The starter packs are subsequently distributed to locals by the Sleaford Community Grocers, providing residents with the resources to prepare nutritious meals.

Sara Smith, a dedicated volunteer, expressed her deep satisfaction at being involved in the initiative. She said, ‘It’s incredibly fulfilling to ensure that the donated vegetables are put to use and then witnessing the significant impact it has on people.’

The project is not only environmentally sustainable but also serves as a social workspace, earning appreciation from regulars like Gabriel Pretorius who value the platform to contribute to community welfare. The initiative’s model has also permeated into neighbouring Gainsborough and Lincoln.

Rob Hewis, the co-director of the project, noted an overwhelming local response, observing, ‘People’s passion for their involvement intensifies when they observe the direct positive influence our project has on their local community.’
