Memorial Unveiled for WW2 Lancaster Bomber Crew Near Boston

A touching tribute has been unveiled in honour of the crew of a Lancaster bomber that tragically met its demise during the Second World War. The plane, flown by Flight Sergeant Geoffrey Appleyard, crashed on 26 July 1942, not long after departure from RAF Coningsby. All seven crew members sadly lost their lives. The memorial plaque is now situated near Benington Sea End, to the north of Boston, in close proximity to the crash location. In attendance at the dedication service were family members, including Appleyard’s niece, who took part in an emotive ceremony that commenced with a procession led by a bagpiper.
