Miliband Vows to Protect Jobs Following Sale of Lindsey Oil Refinery

Ed Miliband, Energy Secretary, has committed to optimising job preservation following the sale of Lindsey Oil Refinery to Phillips 66, a firm that manages the neighbouring Humber Refinery. The sale was necessitated following the previous owner, Prax Group, entering into administration, which has implications for 250 local jobs.

Phillips 66 has clarified that it wouldn’t recommence refining operations, yet Miliband has defended the decision as the most feasible alternative. The future of the site and the workforce has been a matter of concern for local MP Martin Vickers and the Unite union. The official receiver, who assumed control in June, has guaranteed job security until March. Nevertheless, the community is still apprehensive about the long-term employment outlook.
