Murder arrest after woman dies at Horncastle property

Police remain in Horncastle after a woman was found seriously injured at a property in the town and a man was arrested on suspicion of murder. Lincolnshire Police said officers were called to an address on Warwickshires Way at about 4.20pm on Thursday following a report that a 27-year-old woman had suffered serious injuries. She was found unconscious at the property.
A 34-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder. The force has said it does not believe there are any outstanding suspects at this time. For residents in Horncastle and the wider Lincolnshire area, the incident has brought a significant police presence to a normally quiet part of the market town.
Officers are expected to remain in the area while enquiries continue and investigators work to establish exactly what happened. Horncastle, known across Lincolnshire for its independent shops, antiques trade and strong sense of community, is not a place that is often associated with incidents of this kind. News of a murder investigation is therefore likely to be deeply unsettling for people living nearby and for those who know the area well.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy McWatt said police are continuing to piece together the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. He urged anyone who may have seen or heard anything to come forward, even if the detail seems minor. In a statement, he said: "We are urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything - no matter how insignificant it may seem - to contact us.
"Any piece of information could prove vital in helping us piece together exactly what happened and in securing justice for the victim." The force has not released further details about the woman beyond her age, and no additional information about the arrested man has been made public. At this stage, the focus of the investigation remains on establishing the full circumstances surrounding the death. Cases such as this often have a strong impact not only on immediate neighbours but also on the wider community, particularly in a Lincolnshire town where many residents are closely connected through family, work and local networks.
With police activity continuing on Warwickshires Way, people in Horncastle can expect to see officers in the area while enquiries are carried out. Anyone with information that could assist the investigation has been asked by Lincolnshire Police to get in touch. The force believes there are no outstanding suspects, but the investigation is continuing.
