Skegness Welcomes the Return of The Jolly Fisherman Mascot

Inhabitants and guests in Skegness have occasion to once more rejoice in the delightful company of The Jolly Fisherman. A mobilisation for volunteers to step into the well-loved mascot’s outfit has been realised. Skegness Town Council had shared fears that the legendary figure might not show up this summer, yet a volunteer, courtesy of community support, has come forward. The role of Jolly’s attendant for the third occasion has been accepted by Councillor Julie Sadler, who mentioned her pleasure in participating in the tradition. “Jolly brings an abundance of joy to both children and adults,” she declared. The Jolly Fisherman, functioning as a symbol for Skegness since 1908, is more than just a mascot, representing part of the local heritage and featuring on souvenirs and welcoming visitors at the train station. Former mayor and councillor, Steve Kirk, emphasised the importance of the attendant role in ensuring Jolly’s engagement with the public is seamless, especially during the intense summer season. This enduring character maintains its cherished status within the community spirit of Skegness.
